// This study compared speech recognition in noisy conditions between Mandarin and English speakers using a coordinate response measure task with monaural and binaural listening. Results showed binaural listening improved performance, with Mandarin listeners having lower speech recognition thresholds and a right-ear advantage under binaural conditions. Sex-based masking release was greater in monaural listening, while binaural unmasking was stronger for Mandarin speakers, especially with same-sex maskers. The findings highlight binaural processing's key role in segregating competing speech, particularly benefiting tonal language listeners.
