// PFAS exposure induces hearing loss by targeting cochlear hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons
// This study investigated hearing loss caused by PFAS exposure in mice, using a mixture of five PFAS compounds in drinking water for seven weeks. Hearing tests showed increased thresholds and impaired outer hair cell function, alongside a loss of cochlear hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons. The results demonstrate that PFAS exposure leads to high-frequency hearing loss by damaging both sensory and neural components of the cochlea. This provides new evidence of PFAS-induced ototoxicity affecting auditory function.
