// Multiple Modalities of Sensory Gating Are Affected in Decompensated Tinnitus
// This study investigated sensory gating (SG) dysfunction in tinnitus using the Sensory Gating Inventory (SGI) in 358 tinnitus patients and 436 controls. Results showed that SG impairments were greater in tinnitus patients, especially in those with severe (decompensated) tinnitus, affecting perceptual modulation, distractibility, fatigue/stress vulnerability, and auditory processing. The compensated tinnitus group showed SG scores closer to controls except in auditory modality. These findings suggest that SG deficits may play a role in worsening tinnitus severity and could guide future research on tinnitus progression.
