// Computational auditory periphery models: The return of the rodent

// This study adapted a nonlinear cochlear transmission-line model originally for humans to mice and gerbils by adjusting species-specific anatomical and physiological parameters. The adapted models were validated against experimental data, showing reasonable matches in auditory-nerve responses and cochlear tuning, though discrepancies appeared near cochlear base and apex. Simulations reproduced auditory nerve synaptopathy effects seen in animal studies, but individualized outer hair cell damage modeling was less precise. The work demonstrates that biophysically based auditory models can be translated across species, aiding interpretation of animal data for human hearing research and enabling computational studies of hearing loss mechanisms.
