// Spatial Analysis of Electrode Proximity to Lateral Wall and Its Impact on ECAP Amplitudes: An OTOPLAN-Based Study

// This study examined how the distance between cochlear implant electrodes and the lateral wall affects electrically evoked compound action potential (ECAP) amplitudes. Using high-resolution CT scans and ECAP recordings from 44 ears, the researchers found that larger electrode-to-lateral wall distances correlate with higher ECAP amplitudes, especially in the middle cochlear region. This suggests electrodes positioned further from the lateral wall, closer to the modiolus, may improve neural responsiveness. Electrode-to-lateral wall distance could be a useful metric for optimizing cochlear implant programming.
