// The effects and interactions of top-down influences on word recognition

// This study examined how two top-down influences—informative hints and stimulus repetition—affect auditory word recognition in noise. Using behavioral and EEG data from 23 participants, the researchers manipulated hints (valid, invalid, or none) and repeated stimuli across blocks. Results showed initial differences from hints faded with repetition, while repetition learning had stronger, lasting effects regardless of hint type or sensory modality. The findings suggest separate but interacting mechanisms for informative cues and repetition shape speech perception.
