// This study aimed to establish normative ranges for envelope following response (EFR) magnitude to diagnose cochlear synaptopathy. Researchers generated EFR norms from low-risk young adults and compared them to high-risk military Veterans with auditory complaints but normal audiograms. The 4-kHz rectangular amplitude-modulated (RAM) EFR showed the best distinction, identifying 31%-34% of Veterans below the normal range. These findings support using 4-kHz RAM EFR norms to clinically detect cochlear deafferentation in patients with normal audiograms.
