// Aging-related reconfiguration of auditory working-memory control under converging phonological and executive demands: EEG signatures and speech-in-noise performance
// This study investigated how aging affects auditory working memory (WM) and speech-in-noise comprehension using EEG during an auditory n-back task varying in stimulus type and executive load. Older adults showed greater performance decline, especially under high phonological and executive demands, alongside distinct age-related changes in brain activity reflecting a shift from proactive to reactive control processes. Enlarged frontal P3a responses in older adults were linked to poorer WM performance, which in turn correlated with speech-in-noise abilities. The findings highlight how aging selectively impairs auditory WM control when phonological and executive challenges co-occur.
