// Can Stuttering on Content Versus Function Words Predict Stuttering Persistence in Young Children?
// This study investigated how stuttering patterns in children relate to detailed grammatical categories and utterance position to distinguish those who persist in stuttering from those who recover. Using spontaneous speech samples from 57 children over three years, the research analyzed stuttering-like disfluencies by lexical class, specific word types, and their position in utterances. Findings showed that stuttering was more frequent on function words, but utterance-final disfluencies best differentiated persistent stuttering from recovery. The study concludes that considering structural and positional factors, rather than broad content/function word categories, offers clearer insights into early stuttering development and recovery.
