// Impacts of hearing history, etiology, vestibular and balance function, and socioeconomic marginalization on developmental outcomes in children with cochlear implants

// This study examined factors affecting language, working memory, and academic outcomes in children with bilateral cochlear implants (BCIs) compared to typically developing peers. Using standardized tests and statistical analyses on 96 children, it found that children with BCIs scored lower in key developmental domains. Auditory experience was the only consistent predictor of outcomes, while vestibular/balance impairments did not predict performance. The study highlights the need for early, sustained auditory access and tailored support based on hearing loss causes to improve development in children with BCIs.
