// The Cognitive-Affective Hearing Aid Paradox: Boredom Proneness and Attentional Difficulties Predict Worse Age-Related Subjective Hearing but Lower Rates of Hearing Aid Adoption

// This study examined how cognitive-affective factors like boredom proneness and mind-wandering influence the relationship between subjective hearing loss and hearing aid adoption in older adults. Using objective hearing tests and self-reports, the researchers found that greater perceived hearing difficulties predicted higher hearing aid adoption, but higher boredom and mind-wandering tendencies reduced this likelihood. These factors partially mediated the link between subjective hearing issues and hearing aid use. The findings highlight that emotional and cognitive experiences play a role in hearing aid adoption beyond objective hearing loss.
