// This study examined how severity of phonotraumatic vocal hyperfunction (PVH) affects daily voice use patterns to distinguish pathological compensation from etiology. Using machine learning on six ambulatory voice measures from 142 female patients and controls, the strongest severity-linked difference was in H1-H2, indicating more abrupt vocal fold closure with worse PVH. Loudness and rest duration differentiated patients from controls regardless of severity, suggesting these reflect underlying etiology. Results suggest treatments should target both loudness/rest behavior and compensatory vocal fold closure to improve outcomes.
