// This study examined the structure of canonical babbling in 18-month-old autistic and non-autistic children using transition probabilities of consonant categories from home recordings. While the overall frequency of babbling was similar in both groups, autistic children's babbling sequences were more predictable and less varied, showing differences in global organization. The findings suggest that the structure of babbling, rather than quantity or segmental diversity, may differentiate autistic and non-autistic children's early speech development. This highlights the importance of analyzing babbling sequence patterns for early identification of autism-related speech differences.
