// Temporal Masking Assessed With Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials
// This study examined how preceding sounds affect cortical auditory evoked potentials to the syllable /ba/ and tested hypotheses about forward masking effects over varying time intervals. Using speech-shaped noise maskers at different gaps before /ba/, researchers measured changes in response amplitude and latency in young adults. Results showed that maskers increased response latency and reduced amplitude regardless of the timing gap, contradicting expectations of interval-dependent recovery. The findings suggest that sequential sounds influence cortical responses differently than traditional forward masking models predict.
