// Cochlear Nerve Responsiveness to Electrical Stimulation in Late-Implanted Prelingually Deafened Adults

// This study compared cochlear nerve responsiveness to electrical stimulation between prelingually and postlingually deafened adults using electrically evoked compound action potentials (eCAPs). Prelingually deafened adults showed shallower eCAP input/output slopes, indicating reduced neural recruitment, but overall cochlear nerve function remained substantial. Differences in eCAP responses varied by electrode location in postlingually deafened adults but were less marked in prelingually deafened adults. The findings suggest that despite long-term deafness, prelingually deafened adults maintain important cochlear nerve functionality for cochlear implant signal processing.
