// Chromatin and genomic instability in the cochlea contributing to age-related hearing loss: Insights from in vitro and in vivo models
// This study investigated the cellular and molecular mechanisms of age-related hearing loss (ARHL) in mouse models, focusing on chromatin and genomic instability. Using transgenic mice and single-cell RNA sequencing, the research revealed increased DNA damage, altered chromatin states, and telomere shortening in cochlear cells, particularly outer hair cells (OHCs). Key changes included DNA strand breaks, heterochromatin loss, and altered ATRX gene expression during aging. The findings suggest chromatin and genomic instability are central to cochlear aging and identify potential genetic targets for ARHL treatment.
