// Swallowing After Open Partial Horizontal Laryngectomy Type IIa: A Quantitative Videofluoroscopic Analysis Using the Analysis of Swallowing, Physiology, Events, Kinematics, and Timing
// This study analyzed swallowing physiology in patients after open partial horizontal laryngectomy Type IIa using videofluoroscopic swallow studies rated by the ASPEKT method. Data from 100 patients showed increased swallowing impairments, including partial laryngeal vestibule closure, pharyngeal residue, reduced pharyngeal constriction, and delayed hyoid movement. Findings revealed poor hypopharyngeal constriction and compensatory timing changes, leading to compromised swallowing safety and efficiency. These physiological changes are important for clinical evaluation and treatment planning post-surgery.
