// Gaze dynamics of cued speech perception

// This study investigates how deaf and hearing individuals visually perceive cued speech (CS), combining lip-reading with hand gestures to convey full phonological information visually. Eye movements were tracked while participants viewed silent CS videos, revealing that all groups focused mainly on the speaker's lips, but deaf and hearing participants differed in how they distributed their gaze across the face. Deaf individuals showed a more balanced fixation pattern between face sides, and CS users increased gaze on specific face regions when processing more complex linguistic stimuli. These findings highlight the visual attention strategies that support phonological processing in cued speech perception.
