In a review of 236 cases, surgeries performed by trainees had longer operative times than those by attending surgeons, but no increase in complications. Postoperative hemorrhage was rare and occurred only in cases done by attendings. The findings indicate IT is safe with trainee participation, though it may reduce operating room efficiency due to longer surgery duration.
