Using a retrospective cohort design with 447 participants, researchers analyzed changes in speech scores three months post-implant and their association with ADI and insurance type. They found that higher socioeconomic disadvantage (higher ADI) was linked to smaller speech improvements in patients with Medicare, while the opposite was seen in those with commercial insurance. The findings highlight the importance of considering SDH in cochlear implant outcomes to promote equitable hearing healthcare.
