// Associations Between Ultrasonographic Hyoid Motion Parameters and Penetration, Aspiration, and Pharyngeal Residue Across International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative Food Textures

// This study evaluated the use of submental ultrasonography to quantify hyoid bone motion as a predictor of swallowing impairments in adults with suspected dysphagia. Researchers measured six hyoid kinematic parameters and compared them to swallowing outcomes during consumption of varied food textures. Findings showed that reduced hyoid displacement and velocity were significantly associated with increased penetration, aspiration, and vallecular residue, depending on food consistency. The study concludes that ultrasonography can noninvasively assess swallowing function but should be used alongside other assessments for a complete evaluation.
