// The Unique Voice Profile of Children With Auditory Brainstem Implants: A Novel Study on Voice Onset Time
// This study compared voice onset time (VOT) in Turkish children using unilateral CIs, bilateral CIs, ABIs, and normal hearing (NH) peers. VOT measures showed that all implant groups had shorter VOTs for voiceless plosives than NH children, with ABI users having the shortest; however, ABI users produced voiced plosives with normal prevoicing unlike CI users. Findings indicate that auditory devices differently affect speech timing, with ABIs preserving voiced sound timing but impairing voiceless sounds. The results highlight the need for tailored, device-specific speech therapy focusing on laryngeal coordination to improve speech outcomes.
