// This study evaluated round window drill-out (RWD) surgery in otosclerosis patients with round window obliteration causing mixed hearing loss. Four patients (5 ears) underwent RWD to reopen the cochlea's basal turn, with reconstruction to restore function. Results showed varied hearing improvements, with some patients gaining significant benefit and others minimal or no improvement. RWD may help severe otosclerosis patients enhance hearing aid use as an alternative to cochlear implants.
