// A Moderated Mediation Model Linking Speech-in-Noise Exposure, Speech Perception in Noise Ability, Loneliness, and Depression

// This study investigated how time spent in noisy speech environments and the ability to perceive speech in noise relate to loneliness and depression in young adults with normal hearing. Using audio recordings and standardized tests, the researchers found that more time in noisy speech settings was linked to less loneliness for those with average or better speech-in-noise perception, while those with poorer ability showed weaker or opposite patterns. Loneliness was associated with higher depression, and this relationship was significant mainly for individuals with average or better speech-in-noise skills. The results highlight that matching hearing ability with everyday listening environments influences social and emotional well-being.
