// Functional and histological assessment of 3D-printed helmet and hearing protection devices in preventing blast-induced auditory injury in Chinchillas

// This study evaluated a 3D-printed helmet's auditory protection alone and combined with hearing protection devices (HPDs) in chinchillas exposed to repeated high-intensity blasts. Finite element analysis optimized the helmet design, reducing peak skull stress by 47%. Dual protection significantly reduced auditory brainstem response threshold shifts by up to 40 dB and preserved hair cell survival better than single or no protection. Overall, combining the helmet and HPDs provided superior auditory protection against blast-induced injury.
