// This study evaluated the psychometric properties of visual analog scales (VAS) for rating hypokinetic dysarthria in Parkinson's disease. Thirty-seven nonexperts and three experts rated speech samples using VAS and direct magnitude estimation (DME), with results showing strong linearity between VAS and DME and higher reliability for VAS. Both scales demonstrated strong validity, though nonexperts rated severity slightly higher than experts. The study concludes that VAS is a reliable, valid ratio-level tool for several dysarthria features but highlights the need for further research on feature-specific properties and sensitivity.
