// Deficits in tail-lift and air-righting reflexes in rats after ototoxicity associate with loss of vestibular type I hair cells

// This study investigated how different vestibular hair cell types contribute to anti-gravity reflexes in female rats after graded damage from an ototoxic chemical. They measured loss of type I and II hair cells in specific vestibular regions and corresponding reflex impairments. Findings showed both tail-lift and air-righting reflexes mainly depend on type I hair cells, but each reflex relies on different vestibular organs: tail-lift on crista/utricle and air-righting on utricle/saccule. This clarifies distinct sensory origins underlying these vestibular reflexes.
