// This study used event-related potentials to examine how second language learners process English noun-noun metaphors, focusing on semantic distance and metaphorical constituent position. Results showed a biphasic N400-LPC pattern, with semantic distance increasing integration difficulty and metaphorical modifiers causing higher structural costs. Semantic distance affected late semantic processing more strongly, and effects were right-hemisphere lateralized, supporting a neural basis for metaphor comprehension. These findings highlight distinct and interactive roles of semantic factors in L2 metaphor processing, informing language teaching strategies.
