// This study investigated whether noise trauma causes auditory neuropathy (AN) detectable by click auditory brainstem response (ABR) tests in humans. Thirty-one patients exposed to noise trauma and matched controls underwent hearing tests including ABR and pure tone audiometry. Results showed a significant reduction in ABR wave I amplitude in noise-exposed individuals, indicating early neural changes consistent with AN. The authors recommend including ABR in hearing assessments after noise trauma to identify or rule out AN.
