// Measurement Variability of Peak Flow: A Laboratory Experiment Comparing Cough Testing Equipment
// This study evaluated how different equipment configurations affect the accuracy of cough peak flow measurements using analog and digital peak flow meters (PFMs) and pneumotachographs. Using a motorized air pump across various airflow resistances, results showed that facemasks caused the largest measurement errors, especially with analog PFMs, which underestimated airflow by up to 50%. Digital PFMs without attachments provided measurements comparable to the gold standard pneumotachograph. The study concludes that digital PFMs are reliable for clinical use if standardized configurations are maintained, while analog PFMs and facemasks may significantly reduce accuracy.
