// This study used fNIRS to examine brain activity during speech emotion perception in older adults with hearing loss, comparing aided and unaided listening. Hearing aids did not improve behavioral speech emotion perception but altered cortical activity by reducing frontal compensatory control and increasing parietal engagement. Increased planum temporale activity was observed regardless of hearing aid use, indicating persistent early auditory processing abnormalities. These findings suggest hearing aids partially restore auditory processing but do not fully normalize speech emotion perception.
