// Blood-Based Biomarkers Predict Cerebral Palsy and Cognitive Delay in Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy: A Secondary Analysis of the HEAL Randomized Controlled Trial
// This study analyzed blood biomarkers in the first days of life to predict cerebral palsy (CP) and cognitive/language delay in infants with moderate-severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Using data from 180 infants in the HEAL Trial, the biomarker Tau on day 2 showed excellent prediction of CP, matching detailed MRI results. Different biomarkers predicted cognitive/language delay, but Tau remained the best overall predictor. Tau's early measurement provides valuable prognostic information for outcomes after HIE.
