// Association between Salivary Substance P and Aspiration on Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study in Infants and Toddlers
// This study examined whether salivary substance P (SP) levels correlate with aspiration detected by videofluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS) in children under 2 years old with oropharyngeal dysphagia. Using ELISA to measure SP in saliva samples from 50 infants, researchers found significantly higher SP concentrations in those with aspiration. ROC analysis showed high sensitivity and specificity of SP levels in predicting aspiration, especially when saliva was collected within one month of VFSS. The findings suggest salivary SP could be a useful early biomarker for aspiration risk in young children.
