// Estimation of hair cell loss from audiograms
// This study presents a biophysically-based model linking audiometric thresholds to inner and outer hair cell survival in the cochlea. Using postmortem human data, the model predicts audiograms from hair-cell distribution, with better accuracy at low frequencies. The findings show that outer hair cell dysfunction mainly affects high-frequency hearing and cochlear mechanics, while audiograms are more sensitive to overall dysfunction than detailed spatial patterns. The framework quantitatively connects audiograms to cellular damage but reveals limits in diagnosing precise cochlear pathology from threshold data alone.
