// Speech-in-noise recognition during hearing protector use: Human performance and acoustic prediction
// This study examined how different hearing protection devices (HPDs) affect speech intelligibility at various noise levels using QuickSIN and MRT tests with 124 normal-hearing subjects. Most HPDs did not degrade performance compared to open ear, except a high insertion-loss earplug, while electronic earmuffs improved results in MRT. Speech Intelligibility Index (SII) predictions were enhanced by incorporating spatial acoustic information via head-related transfer functions (sSII). The findings indicate that speech perception with most HPDs is similar to open ear and that spatial cues improve prediction accuracy.
