// Electrophysiologically-based electrode selection has the potential to improve speech perception in cochlear-implant users
// This study aimed to improve cochlear implant (CI) speech perception by using the electrically-evoked auditory steady-state response (eASSR) as an objective measure of neural modulation across electrodes. Researchers recorded 40-Hz eASSRs along the electrode array and created individualized maps selecting electrodes with better or poorer temporal envelope encoding. They found that maps with electrodes showing stronger eASSRs led to better speech perception than those with poorer electrodes, although both were still inferior to the standard clinical map. The findings suggest that objective, eASSR-based electrode selection could enhance individualized CI fitting and speech outcomes.
