// Frequency-dependent effects of notched-noise forward maskers on pure-tone gap detection

// This study investigated how spectrally shaped forward maskers affect gap detection thresholds (GDTs) across different frequencies. Sixty normal-hearing adults completed a gap-detection task using tonal markers under quiet, white-noise, and notched-noise masking conditions. Results showed white-noise increased GDTs, while notched-noise maskers often lowered GDTs in a complex, frequency-dependent way. These findings suggest that spectral shaping influences gap detection beyond simple within-channel effects, indicating broader auditory adaptation mechanisms.
