// Interaural Time and Level Differences Contribute Differently to Source Segregation and Spatial Selection

// This study examined how interaural time differences (ITDs) and interaural level differences (ILDs) affect sound source segregation and spatial attention using a selective auditory task with fNIRS brain imaging. Participants listened to spatially separated speech or noise with varied ITDs and ILDs, showing that spatial cues influenced performance more when the masker was speech. Small ITDs reduced hit rates and increased prefrontal and lateralized superior temporal activity, while natural ILDs caused higher false alarms, indicating they aid source segregation but not lateralization. The findings highlight distinct roles of ITDs and ILDs in auditory scene analysis and spatial selective attention.
