// Partner-Specific Audience Design in Parkinson's Disease: Insights From In-Person and Virtual Modalities

// This study examined whether people with mild Parkinson's disease (PD) retain the ability to tailor speech based on a partner's knowledge (audience design). Two experiments used referential communication tasks to measure partner-specific adaptation via expression length and definite article use in different interaction formats. Results showed that individuals with PD generally preserved audience design, especially during in-person interactions, but showed reduced adaptation in virtual settings. The findings highlight that communication modality affects pragmatic skills in PD, underscoring the need for supportive cues in remote conversations.
