// Predictors of Word Learning With and Without Retrieval Practice in Children With Developmental Language Disorder

// This study investigated factors influencing word learning in 4- to 5-year-old children with developmental language disorder (DLD) and typical development (TD). Age and nonword repetition skills predicted novel word learning, with older children showing less benefit if they had weak nonword repetition, especially without retrieval practice. Including retrieval practice reduced reliance on nonword repetition ability and improved learning outcomes for children with DLD. These findings suggest retrieval practice may enhance vocabulary intervention effectiveness for preschoolers with DLD.
