// Challenges of Cochlear Implant Use for Spatial Hearing in Children and Adolescents With Asymmetric Hearing Including Single Sided Deafness

// This study examined hearing benefits and challenges in children with one cochlear implant and either a hearing aid or normal hearing in the other ear. Speech perception with the implant was similar between groups, but children preferred their better-hearing ear, especially if hearing loss occurred later. CI users showed poor sound localization and difficulty detecting moving sounds linked to limited access to binaural cues. Overall, bimodal hearing helps speech perception but results in poor spatial hearing and aural bias toward the non-implanted ear.
