// This study compared mental health in preadolescents with and without a history of late talking (HLT) to see if early language ability affects later outcomes. Fifty-two Mandarin-speaking children aged 9-11 were assessed on mental health measures like conceptual learning, self-regulation, and social functioning. Those with HLT showed worse performance in these areas, which correlated moderately with their early language skills. The findings suggest early language delays can lead to mental health challenges, highlighting the need for early intervention and monitoring during school transition.
