// This study investigated whether hearing aids with occluding domes affect the perception of external speech and own-voice quality due to the occlusion effect. Ten normal-hearing and ten hearing-impaired adults rated sound externalization and own-voice naturalness using open and closed hearing aid fittings, alongside objective occlusion measurements. Results showed hearing aids reduced externalization and own-voice ratings, especially with closed fittings, but objective occlusion measures did not predict these perceptual changes. The study concluded hearing aids impact sound perception negatively, but occlusion alone does not explain individual differences in these effects.
