// This study investigated whether acoustic and perceptual swallow sounds differ between aspirated and non-aspirated swallows in preterm neonates. Researchers recorded swallow sounds and videos during swallow studies and analyzed these using acoustic software and expert perceptual ratings. Significant differences were found between aspirated and non-aspirated swallows, and certain perceptual sound features effectively predicted aspiration with good accuracy. The findings suggest that cervical auscultation sound features can aid speech-language pathologists in assessing aspiration risk in preterm neonates.
