// Conversational-Communicative Experience and Theory of Mind in Taiwanese Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children
// This study examined theory of mind (ToM) development in Taiwanese deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children with early hearing aids or cochlear implants. Using structural equation modeling, it found that accumulated hearing experience influences ToM indirectly through language competence. When matched for conversational experience, DHH and hearing children showed similar ToM abilities, but DHH children followed a ToM developmental sequence typical of individualistic cultures, unlike their hearing peers. The study highlights the importance of early hearing intervention and rich conversational environments for supporting ToM development across cultures.
