// This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the effectiveness of intratympanic (IT) agents in preventing cisplatin-induced hearing loss (CIHL). Ten randomized trials involving IT dexamethasone, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), and sodium thiosulfate (STS) were analyzed, with no significant overall hearing protection found for dexamethasone or NAC. Limited evidence suggests IT STS may reduce ototoxicity, but data were insufficient for meta-analysis. The study concludes that more research is needed to confirm any protective effects of IT agents against CIHL.
