// Contribution of Phonological Information to Lexical Access in School-Age Children With Cochlear Implants
// This study examined how German-speaking children with cochlear implants (CIs) use phonological information for lexical access compared to peers with typical hearing (TH). Using an eye-tracking visual-world paradigm, the researchers found that children with CIs have slower lexical access, but their use of phonological contrasts is qualitatively similar to TH children. Lexical access improves for all children when phonological neighbors are less similar and specific features like consonant voicing and vowel front-back distinctions are present. Individual differences did not explain the observed effects.
