// Limited Interchangeability of Cochlear Tuning Estimates Across Fast Psychophysical Tuning Curve, Distortion-Product Otoacoustic-Emission Level-Ratio Function, and Stimulus-Frequency Otoacoustic Emission-Phase Methods at 2 to 8 kHz
// This study examined whether behavioral (fPTCs) and otoacoustic emission (OAE)-based metrics of cochlear tuning provide interchangeable estimates of auditory frequency selectivity in individuals. Using data from 67 adults, the researchers compared tuning sharpness across three methods at 2, 4, and 8 kHz and found weak correlations and poor agreement between them. Results showed substantial individual-level discrepancies, especially related to hearing loss and OAE signal quality. The findings indicate these methods should be viewed as complementary rather than interchangeable for clinical assessments.
