// Adenoid hypertrophy is associated with poorer outcomes of acute mastoiditis in children

// This study investigated the link between adenoid size, measured by the adenoid-to-nasopharyngeal ratio (ANR), and the severity of acute mastoiditis in children. Using retrospective data from 106 hospitalized children, results showed that a higher ANR and younger age were independently associated with more severe disease, defined by intracranial complications or PICU admission. Severe mastoiditis cases also had longer hospital stays and more subsequent ear infections. The findings suggest that larger adenoid size may indicate increased disease severity, highlighting the potential benefit of early detection and treatment of adenoid hypertrophy.
