// Intraoperative Visual Identification of Extra-Cochlear Electrodes in Cochlear Implantation Using Stimulation Current-Induced Non-Stimulating Electrode Voltages
// This study evaluates Stimulation Current-Induced Non-Stimulating Electrode Voltages (SCINSEVs) as a fast intraoperative method to detect extra-cochlear electrodes (EEs) during cochlear implant surgery. Researchers recorded SCINSEVs while deliberately leaving electrodes outside the cochlea and compared expert reviewers’ detections with surgical observations. Results showed high sensitivity (95.9%) but moderate specificity (40.7%) for identifying EEs, suggesting SCINSEVs reliably detect misplaced electrodes in real time. This approach may reduce reliance on imaging and improve outcomes by enabling immediate surgical correction.
